Pipeline Supervisor

Giant is seeking a Pipeline Supervisor to help oversee, advance, and drive the development of Giant’s internal pipeline (end-to-end).

Position Overview

This is a full-time position and will be based in our studio in Dublin, Ireland.  There is flexibility for remote working, but applicants should be in the same time zone as the studio for +/- 2 hours.

Position Responsibilities

  • Own, improve and supervise all stages of Giant’s production pipeline(s).
  • Set overall pipeline development roadmap and assign/delegate tasks to the pipeline and R&D teams.
  • See production practices holistically and always be conscious of the bigger picture, thinking of short and long-term pipeline impacts, course-correcting development as needed.
  • Work closely with technical and creative staff, including CG Supervisor(s) and Art Director(s) so that there is clear communication and understanding of the requirements for each production department(s).
  • Constantly communicate with project and technology teams to evaluate ongoing user experiences while translating feedback in order to continually develop and improve production processes.
  • Review all projects from a technical and pipeline perspective, helping to plan key pipeline developments and tools in order to meet production requirements.
  • Attend client meetings and calls to discuss pipeline development matters or potential roadblocks if required.
  • Collaborate with the IT department to evaluate, augment, and integrate pipeline changes to the infrastructure.
  • Document all pipeline development, including how-tos, tool breakdowns, code workflows, and development roadmaps etc.
  • Help train project and technical staff on new pipeline processes and toolsets.
  • Be proactive in mentoring and developing all members of the Pipeline team, supporting a collaborative and creative environment.
  • Help resolve issues or complaints within your team constructively and efficiently, and escalate difficulties as needed.
  • Assess prospective Pipeline hires and work with Production Management on hiring decisions.
  • Develop & head induction tests for all new Pipeline starts if required.
  • Constantly look for more efficient and effective procedures, practices & methodologies.
  • Help conduct project evaluations and post-mortem reports at the wrap of each project.
  • Examine new and innovative technologies, evaluate and ultimately present how they could improve the studio’s pipeline.
  • Participate in promoting Giant Animation in the broader animation and VFX communities.

Position Requirements

The position requires a blend of technical know-how, an excellent eye, and strong problem-solving abilities:

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in Pipeline Management.
  • A team player with excellent communication skills, dependable and adaptable.
  • Good at taking directions and paying close attention to details.
  • Ability to think critically, and the ability to diagnose and solve problems independently as well as collaboratively by offering mentorship.
  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Computer Graphics, or equivalent and/or experience to equal that level of technical and creative knowledge and professionalism.
  • Experience with third-party software packages: Adobe Suite, Autodesk Maya, Foundry Nuke, Autodesk Shotgun (required) & Unreal Engine or Unity (required).
  • Solid expertise with node-based compositing tools (i.e. Shake, Nuke, or similar).
  • Proficiency with Python scripting language (required).
  • Experience in computer animation, visual effects, or the game industry (required).
  • Experience, including pipeline and plugin development, with many third-party VFX/Animation software packages (preferred).
  • Experience with software development languages: Java, Javascript, C++.
  • Experience with other toolkits and systems: CI, Git, Mel, Deadline, Maya API.
  • Experience with OSX, Windows, and Linux operating systems.
